Tax Day

Well, we're here in Amarillo. I know it's been almost 2 months since I last posted. This has been a very good, but challenging few weeks. I don't have my scale here, but I know I've put back on a few of the pounds I previously lost. However, I think I will start back losing again. We don't have a fenced yard, so we have to walk Koko several times a day. I've already walked more in the last few days, than I had the whole rest of the year. Also, I don't think I'm eating as much. We can get food from the campus commissary, so we're trying to not eat out. That will also save us money.

On Saturday, we get kids for the first time. We will be parenting the Central Cottage from Saturday through the end of the month. They have a full house now with 8 kids. We've spent some time with them and the house parents. This is going to be fun! different! challenging! our adventure!

Feb 25

Well, I've had a crummy month, but I'm finally back on track. I weighed in this morning at 340.0. I've got some catching up to do to get back to my 2 pounds per week goal.

I've signed up for my unemployment. I've got to make 5 contacts per week in my job search. I've contacted several recruiters, but have not even gotten one call back for any jobs. Just as I suspected, the market is pretty tight right now.

We had our roof looked at yesterday. The adjuster agreed that we need to have the roof replaced. His appraisal was over $20,000. I guess I'm glad he found hail damage. We certainly couldn't afford to replace it on our own without some insurance reimbursement.

The roofer guy was pretty nice. He has gotten a lot of work from people from South MacArthur that live in our neighborhood. He went on and on about what a good man Jim Hopson is. I agree.

In the last 6 months we have done a lot of updating to the house:

New air conditioner compressor in July.
New paint in November.
New carpet in December.
New roof in March.

Nearly $30,000 total including the roof. Insurance (roof and air conditioner) paid for most of it. We still owe on the carpet. Hopefully, if we have to sell the house, these updates will help it sell quickly.

Feb 7 - Super Bowl Sunday

Well, it's been a while since I blogged in. Today I weighed in at 344.4 - up a couple of pounds for the past two weeks. Sorry I haven't kept my resolution, but I can always start again. The last two weeks have been tough. I found out, over a week ago, that my job was being outsourced to a CPA firm. I thought I had experienced all the different ways of job separation:

Leaving a job to go to another job.
Fired for deserting my staff on the night of my anniversary.
Let go with severance due to finance department downsizing and move.
Walking out for cause with no job lined up.
Again leaving to go to another job.
Company bought out and tax department no longer needed.

Well, I join the ranks of those whose jobs have been outsourced. Mine went to a CPA firm in North Dallas, not to India.

I have been feeling really sorry for myself. Then I got a call from my mom. My sister in law (my little brother's wife Sarah) has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She has to have surgery to have the tumor removed and have her lung reassembled. Sarah, I'm sorry I was feeling sorry for myself. Jobs are nothing but a means to an end. My prayers have been refocused to you. I'm trying to not worry about my situation. God has promised that I will not be in need if I seek him and his kingdom and righteousness. I am trusting him to take care of both of our situations.

Jan 23

Today I weighed 342.8. Finally am headed back in the right direction. That's a total of 16.8 pounds in 3 weeks. Not too bad, but not great. I still haven't begun exercising, so I need to light a fire under my rear to get that going.

Last night I played poker again with the Morrisons. I didn't do too bad, but little Scottie Morrison knocked me out of the tournament again. It seems like one of the Morrison family (Scot, Joy the mom, Jeff or Jennifer the hosts) always seem to win. I guess it's their tourney so that's ok, but just once I want to win it all. Oh well, Karen hates me playing any poker at all, so I won't complain too much. She lets me do this each month. I <3 her so much. And not just because she lets me play poker.

I get to tell my 1-5 graders that I lost my 2 pounds this week. I was getting a little worried that I wouldn't.

Jan 21

Well, I better get going. I weighed in today at 347.2, down only a couple of tenths of a pound. I've got to get to my 2 pounds so I don't let the kids down Sunday. It's still the late night munching. New focus.

I think we're going to California in May. That only gives me 3 1/2 months to get into my speedo. (I'm really more concerned about getting into the plane seat.)

Jan 16

This morning I weighed in at 347.4. It was nice to be below 350 so I've got to keep going. Yesterday they catered lunch at work. They had steak smothered in some crab sauce, potato wedges, asparagus, fancy salad with the lettuce nobody really likes, lots of fruit and some cream puffs for dessert. I only ate some meat, salad, asparagus and fruit. No potato wedges or cream puffs. There is one of the ladies at work who thinks she is going to win our weight loss contest. I got a cream puff and put it on her desk. We passed it back and forth all afternoon. Right now it's sitting on the back of her keyboard under her desk.

At least tomorrow I can tell the 1st through 5th graders bible class that I lost my 2 pounds this week. I'm helping with their weekly worship this month and the lessons are on discipline. I told them the first week that I was going to excercise physical discipline and lose 2 pounds each week. They asked me if I had lost my 2 pounds last week. I expect they will ask again tomorrow.

Jan 13

Well, I weighed 351.4 this morning. It's been a few days since I weighed, but at least I didn't weigh more. I've got to start taking this more seriously. We had the senior potato supper and servant auction Sunday night. I spent $65 for a pecan pie from Hannah Allard. She didn't even make it, but she is supposed to make another dessert for us this weekend. I shouldn't be overpaying for desserts right now. We also got the two Deubler twins who said they would either clean or babysit. I told them that they obviously wouldn't be babysitting for us, so get ready to clean. Each one of them said they would be willing to babysit Cameron and Conner. Troy has trouble to look forward to with those two girls.
