Feb 25

Well, I've had a crummy month, but I'm finally back on track. I weighed in this morning at 340.0. I've got some catching up to do to get back to my 2 pounds per week goal.

I've signed up for my unemployment. I've got to make 5 contacts per week in my job search. I've contacted several recruiters, but have not even gotten one call back for any jobs. Just as I suspected, the market is pretty tight right now.

We had our roof looked at yesterday. The adjuster agreed that we need to have the roof replaced. His appraisal was over $20,000. I guess I'm glad he found hail damage. We certainly couldn't afford to replace it on our own without some insurance reimbursement.

The roofer guy was pretty nice. He has gotten a lot of work from people from South MacArthur that live in our neighborhood. He went on and on about what a good man Jim Hopson is. I agree.

In the last 6 months we have done a lot of updating to the house:

New air conditioner compressor in July.
New paint in November.
New carpet in December.
New roof in March.

Nearly $30,000 total including the roof. Insurance (roof and air conditioner) paid for most of it. We still owe on the carpet. Hopefully, if we have to sell the house, these updates will help it sell quickly.

Feb 7 - Super Bowl Sunday

Well, it's been a while since I blogged in. Today I weighed in at 344.4 - up a couple of pounds for the past two weeks. Sorry I haven't kept my resolution, but I can always start again. The last two weeks have been tough. I found out, over a week ago, that my job was being outsourced to a CPA firm. I thought I had experienced all the different ways of job separation:

Leaving a job to go to another job.
Fired for deserting my staff on the night of my anniversary.
Let go with severance due to finance department downsizing and move.
Walking out for cause with no job lined up.
Again leaving to go to another job.
Company bought out and tax department no longer needed.

Well, I join the ranks of those whose jobs have been outsourced. Mine went to a CPA firm in North Dallas, not to India.

I have been feeling really sorry for myself. Then I got a call from my mom. My sister in law (my little brother's wife Sarah) has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She has to have surgery to have the tumor removed and have her lung reassembled. Sarah, I'm sorry I was feeling sorry for myself. Jobs are nothing but a means to an end. My prayers have been refocused to you. I'm trying to not worry about my situation. God has promised that I will not be in need if I seek him and his kingdom and righteousness. I am trusting him to take care of both of our situations.
